The Legend of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano
According to a native legend, the chief of the Curubandé tribe had a daughter, a princess named Curubandá, who fell in love with prince Mixcoac, son of the chief of the enemy tribe. The princess's father ended the prince's life by throwing him into the crater of the active volcano, as their love was forbidden.
La Leona Waterfall
The waterfall acquired the name La Leona during the time our more recent ancestors settled in the area and started breeding livestock. The larger the local community grew, the more the natural habitat of large cats was reduced. Inevitably these large felines occasionally would kill some cattle, which resulted in people actively hunting them down. Many local reference points are still named La Leona after the large cats the once were prevalent in the area, such as trails, farms, pools and the beautiful La Leona waterfall.

Location and how to get Here,
Finca Don Rafa´s are located in Curubandé de Liberia, Guanacaste. From Liberia follow the Inter American highway 5km north and take the exit on the right hand side that leads to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. After 8km driving up the road you will find our information centre on the right hand side, in front of Bar Restaurant Mixcuac. Here we will give you any additional information you may request. It is also our gathering point in case you need transportation to the farm. The parking lot at the information center is safe and secure.From Bar Mixcuac follow the road for another 2km, through the centre of Curubandé. About 200m after passing the church take the dirt road on the left hand side, right in front of Tiquicia Lodge. Follow the dirt road for 1km and at the end take another left turn into the forested area of Finca don `Rafa’s. After a short 200mts you will arrive at the adventure centre where our people will welcome you.
